Promising reviews, the Rising Applause Scholarship and a nomination for the Neerlands Hoop: Christian van Eijkelenburg is no longer absent from the current cabaret scene. The public and the press praise his quirky, innovative style. ‘A great talent for absurdisme’, wrote Theaterkrant. The Dutch cabaret jury called him ‘a very original and relevant creator’. Now he is back. With a projector full of breathtaking visuals and a soundboard filled with electronic sounds, he is ready to shake the theater world to its foundations again.
‘Small Talk’, directed by Maike Meijer (Tower C), is an absurdist cabaret show about the meaning and especially the nonsense of everyday talk. Eight billion people throw their words into the world every day. To each other, over each other, past each other. Blablabla. Christian gives that multitude of voices a stage and tries to create order in the endless overkill. But where the f*ck should he start? And how hypocritical is it that he himself is now taking the word? Brace yourself for an evening full of awkward conversations, selfish failures, embarrassing silences, theatrical doubters, and insane thought patterns. Painfully relatable and especially hilarious.
‘Small Talk’ is a humorous theatrical journey that turns all your senses on high and sends you back into the world full of wonder and euphoria.
