Escher & Bach was created in 2023, the year in which the 125th anniversary of Maurits Escher's birth was celebrated. The famous graphic artist Escher had a great love for music, in particular the (organ) music of Johann Sebastian Bach.
Escher & Bach is a multidisciplinary performance in which the life and work of Escher and Bach come together in a unique way through music, light art, and theater. Organ works by Bach, performed by organist Geerten van de Wetering, are alternated with theatrical contributions in which actor Aus Greidanus builds bridges between Bach's music and the life and work of Escher.
Light artist Jeroen Alexander Meijer is exhibiting light artworks set to the music of Bach inspired by the work of Escher, in which the audience is taken on a journey through repetition, perspective, and shadow, important elements in Escher's work.
This impressive musical theater performance is now coming to Vlissingen. A special evening in the impressive space of the Jacobskerk!
