Choral Evensong and candles
What is there to do?
What is there to do?
On Sunday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2025, St. James Church will be open from 1 p.m. to give people the opportunity to light a candle for their deceased loved ones.
The Choral Evensong will join this at 5 p.m. on that afternoon.
Singing is vital especially in these days of loss: it offers comfort and connection.
In this Evensong we read Isaiah 60: 1-3 and 17-22, and Matthew 5: 1-12, the so-called Beatitudes. In addition to Psalm 138 by J. Turle, the Evensingers sing as usual the prayers of S.E.T. Williams, a magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by C. Wood and an anthem by C.H.H. Parry. There are also three part-songs. The Evensingers are under the direction of Inkeke Wijkhuijs-van den Driest. The pastor is Rev. Gerrit Klein and the organist is Jos Vogel.
Admission is free; however, there will be a collection at the exit for expenses.
The Evensingers' next performance at Jacob's Church is on Sunday, Dec. 21, 4:30 p.m. with the Festival of Lessons and Carols.
