Cabaret artist Chris Verlaan captured the hearts of many with his programs ‘Man in the Making’ and ‘De Kringloper. With his unique, autistic view of life and witty humor, he takes the audience into his world. His stories are recognizable, surprising and offer a refreshing perspective on everyday reality. In his very own dry, cynical style, Chris brings a program full of anecdotes and songs as only Chris can bring.
When something goes wrong in Chris“ life, he always thinks of his mother's saying, ”Oh well, there won't be any children.“ And despite this being his life wisdom, he secretly has other plans. Chris happily struggles through the uncertain, single existence, but secretly he would like to pass something of himself on to the next generation. Pretty tough, when even looking at a woman's face is a challenge. With much discomfort and the necessary self-mockery, he shares with his audience the life lessons he himself has learned for now. Will Chris manage to contribute to society in his unique way? No matter what you think of Chris, one thing is certain: ”Ah, there won't be any babies."
The press about ‘The Circle Runner’:
“Whose style full of self-mockery and gargantuan sarcasm combined with a calm, mildly cheerful tone is occasionally reminiscent of that of Kees Torn. Or further back, to Toon Hermans. ... Verlaan's calm, at times acrid tone and his pointed and witty jokes make De Kringloper a solid and often entertaining performance” (★★★★★★ NRC)
“Equipped with a fine balance of human hatred and abundant self-mockery, he shares with us the discomforts of his autism and the lessons he draws from talk group 'Hup with life'” (Theater newspaper)
“A pleasant introduction to the comedic talent Chris Verlaan. ... The way of telling and placing jokes is sometimes reminiscent of that of Herman Finkers.” (★★★★★★ Volkskrant)
“The ratio of serious stories to his jokes is just right.” (❤️❤️❤️❤️ Ilovetheater)
