This special film screening at St. James Church in Flushing, will feature live music by and from Kevin Toma.
Sunrise, the film debut of German filmmaker F.W. Murnau, was one of the first feature films with a synchronized soundtrack and sound effects. The musical score includes Charles Gounod's Funeral March of a Marionette and Chopins' A minor prelude. The film won two Oscars at the very first Academy Awards in 1929, for Unique and Artistic Picture
The film is known as one of the best productions of the silent film era and is listed on the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural, historical and aesthetic importance.
