On June 17, 2026, the Vlissingen Oratorio Society will celebrate its 80th anniversary!
To celebrate and commemorate this joyous occasion, the Vlissingen Oratory Society/Zeeland Concert Choir will perform on June 13, 2026, an anniversary concert in the St. James' Church in Vlissingen. For this concert, the Vlissingen Oratorio Society/Zeeland Concert Choir has entered into a special collaboration, because especially for our society and this anniversary, Jacco Lamfers, inspired by the beautiful St. James' Church and the scallop shell, has composed a new work, a composition for choir, string orchestra, and organ, titled The Journey is One. In addition to this anniversary composition, "The Ground" by the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo will be performed, along with several pieces familiar to the choir from A. Vivaldi's Gloria and F. Durante's Magnificat in B. An organ composition is also on the program. Participating in this concert are: the Vlissingen Oratorio Society (Zeeland Concert Choir), Jos Vogel, organist, and the string ensemble Con Legno. In the absence of our regular conductor Pim Overduin, Christian Blaha is in overall charge of this concert.
Because of the composition specially made for the Vlissingen Oratorium Vereniging/Zeeland Concert Choir, we hope to attract new and young audiences, in addition to our regular and loyal visitors. This audience is less focused on traditional choral music but is curious about the new sound we will present.
Concert begins at 3:00 PM. There is no intermission. Concert ends approximately at 4:00 PM. After the concert, there will be a celebratory conclusion including 2 complimentary drinks.
