A concert by TY Zeeland Chamber Orchestra in Italian style together with young Zeeland recorder talent Esra Jonckman. Music by 2 composers from the Italian Baroque: Giuseppe Sammartini (1695-1750) and Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741). Sammartini's Concerto for recorder in F and Vivaldi's Il Gardellino will be accompanied by lesser-known, but equally special Concerto Grossi by these masters.
Who is Esra?
Esra Jonckman (born 2009) from Vlissingen started playing the recorder at the age of 7 (2016) with the music association Vlijt & Volharding in Oost-Souburg. After a year, she transferred to the Zeeland Music School, where she was taught by Marja Smet and was part of the talent class. Since 2023, she has been studying at the Young Talent Program (Sweelinck Academy) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she is taught by Hester Groenleer.
Esra has already received multiple awards from various music competitions. In 2019, she won the Spiegelzaal Prize from the Music Competition, which included a performance on the radio program “Spiegelzaal” at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, broadcast by NPO Radio 4. In the same year, she won first prize at the Eastman Music Competition in Middelburg and subsequently performed at Klassiek op ’t Amstelveld. In 2022, she won first prize at the Music Competition for Zeeland Youth. On May 12, 2024, she participated in the National Final of the Princess Christina Competition and won third prize. Esra regularly performs in Zeeland and beyond. In 2023, she had the opportunity to perform with the Zeeland Orchestra, conducted by Ivan Meylemans. In October 2025, she was also featured as a ’young talent‘ on the program Podium Klassiek.
