In 2002 a musical tribute was paid in Volendam to The Cats, in the 1960s the founders of what was later referred to as the ’eel sound. It did not stop with this one-off performance, because the way in which the Tribute To The Cats Band had breathed new life into the hits of their legendary fellow villagers demanded a sequel.
We are now 22 years and over 800 concerts later. ‘Lea’, ‘Why’, ‘Marian’, ‘Times were when’ and last but not least the world hit ‘One way wind’ provide a weekly feast of recognition in the country. The visitors of the concerts of the Tribute To The Cats Band, used to be partly the visitors of the concerts of The Cats. But more and more young people are joining the large group of fans who have gathered around the band, because they enjoy an evening of Cats music.
The polyphonic harmony vocals are one of the striking features of the Tribute To The Cats Band, enabling them to recreate that characteristic Cats sound. They are supported in this by, among others, sound engineer & Manager, Jan Schilder, who was also responsible for the hall sound with The Cats. With him, ‘Vaya con dios’, ‘Scarlet ribbons’, ‘Marian , Lea’ and ‘Jukebox’ are also in good hands again.
Perhaps most proud of the success and popularity of the Tribute To The Cats Band are the original band members of The Cats themselves. Among other things, this has already led to several guest appearances, releasing many emotions both on stage and in the audience.
With the eight of them they guarantee an atmospheric full evening program , with almost all Cats hits: And again, it is a feast of recognition with lots of fun and conviviality!
