Vocal Ensemble Cantare Goes and string ensemble ConLegno of the Music School led by Pim Overduin will provide the opening concert of Peace Week 2025 on Sept. 20. The Peace Week is organized by Vredeswerkgroep Walcheren under the motto "Doing nothing is not an option.
Peace. The whole world yearns for it. But peace seems further away than ever. And yet, when we all work for peace in our own place and our own way, it has an effect. There is no other way. Doing nothing is not an option.
The Zeeland composer Douwe Eisenga wrote the choral work Le secret de la paix on texts by the Persian poet Omar Khayyam. This melodic-minimalist sound work will have its world premiere on Sept. 20 at the Jacobskerk in Flushing during the opening concert of Peace Week.
But more peace music is heard: together with Con Legno, Cantare performs The Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo. A beautiful work that ends with the well-known The Ground. Also Again by David Lang (on texts from the biblical Ecclesiastes) and The Fruit of Silence by Peteris Vasks (on a text by Mother Theresa) are on the program.
