Apr
On April 29th, it will be exactly 350 years since Michiel de Ruyter passed away. At the Maritiem Museum Zeeland, we are commemorating this occasion with a special and interactive workshop for children and adults alike. Join us on a journey of discovery with the most famous commander-in-chief of the Dutch fleet!
Planning
Together with a guide, you'll search for Michiel in the muZEEum. You'll look at letters he wrote and learn what life at sea was like, with wind, stars, and an endless horizon. At what moments was he heroic? Did he also suffer from homesickness sometimes? Was De Ruyter a hero?
We also critically examine the past:
And you decide for yourself: is Michiel a hero to you... or not?
After the expedition, you'll get creative. During a painting workshop, you'll create a seascape, much like Michiel might have seen.
