Above all was the first world hit by Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66. Singer Josee Koning and her band celebrate sixty years of Sergio Mendes' music with the swinging program 60 Years of Brasil ’66 – The Music of Sergio Mendes.
Together with singer Egle Petrosiute, Josee performs the music that made Sergio Mendes (1941–2024) one of the greatest Brazilian artists of his time. In the 1960s, he fused bossa nova, samba, pop, and jazz into a unique sound, firmly placing Brazil on the global music map. His Brazilian interpretations of classics such as The Fool on the Hill (The Beatles) in Scarborough Fair Simon & Garfunkel are world-famous.
Even after the 60s, Mendes remained exceptionally productive, releasing an impressive 35 albums where he effortlessly blended bossa nova with funk. It's no wonder his career was crowned with several Grammys and an Oscar nomination. And in 2006, Mendes performed the song "Where Is the Love" with the Black Eyed Peas. More Than Anything Once again, international hit status.
At 60 Years of Brasil ’66 – The Music of Sergio Mendes Josee Koning and Egle Petrosiute give their own, energetic, and balanced interpretation of Sergio Mendes's rich oeuvre.
They are accompanied by a trio featuring the virtuosic pianist Hans Vroomans, top drummer Yorán Vroom, and the versatile Brazilian bassist Matheus Nicolaiewsky.
Together they swing like a well-oiled samba machine and bring the music of Sergio Mendes to life with craftsmanship, energy, and warmth.
A swinging tribute full of rhythm, class, and pure Brazilian groove!
