Joost outlines that Zeeland has an exceptionally large CO₂ challenge due to its existing industry (including Yara, Zeeland Refinery, Dow), but that this is simultaneously an opportunity for Zeeland's education sector to make an impact.
Hydrogen is being positioned as a key part of the solution: it can buffer surplus wind energy and can be used without CO₂ emissions. Thanks to a subsidy, a Hydrogen Lab has been established at HZ where theory and practice come together for MBO, HBO, and VO students.
