On the Scheldestraat in Vlissingen you'll find De Gouden Schaar: a trusted address for clothing repairs, dry cleaning services and tailored craftsmanship. But behind the sewing machine is more than a tailor, here works Mustafa Okur, a man whose life story is closely intertwined with his craft.<\/p>\n

From the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam to the tranquility of Vlissingen<\/h2>\n

Originally from Turkey, Mustafa began his career in the 1990s in his brother's studio in Amsterdam. \"We worked in ready-to-wear, producing large numbers of clothes with lots of staff,\" he says. \"But when the costs became too high, we switched to clothing repair.\"<\/p>\n

Twenty years ago, Mustafa, just married, decided to leave Amsterdam with his young family for a new future. He traveled all over the country, looking for a place that offered peace, security and quality of life. He found that place in Flushing. \"I wanted a safe, clean environment for my children. Here I know my neighbors and I know where my children are. You don't find that peace and quiet in the Randstad.\"<\/p>\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n \n
