On Saturday, September 5, 2026, the annual Dutch East Indies Commemoration will take place at the Northern Cemetery in Vlissingen. During this commemoration, reflection is dedicated to the wartime history of the former Dutch East Indies, the subsequent colonial war, and the arrival of the Moluccans in the Netherlands, 75 years ago.
The ceremony consists, among other things, of music by Vlijt en Volharding, speeches, the recitation of a poem, two minutes of silence, and a wreath-laying.
Afterwards, there is an informal gathering with a traditional Indonesian rijsttafel at the building of the Vlissingen Kegel and Billiards Association (KBVV). Registration in advance is required to participate in the rijsttafel via cnieuwenhuyzen@vlissingen.nl of 06 - 53 14 67 67.
