About the Orange Mill

About the Orange Mill

The Oranjemolen, located on the banks of the Westerschelde River in Vlissingen, is one of the oldest and most iconic mills in the Netherlands. Built in the 17th century, this corn mill served the local community for centuries. The Oranjemolen has a special coastal location and was long an important lookout post for ships entering the port of Vlissingen. During World War II, the mill played a role in defending the city and witnessed the Allied landings on Walcheren. Today, the Oranjemolen is open on certain days to visitors, who can explore its authentic interior and learn more about the workings of a traditional windmill. From the mill, there are great views of the Westerschelde River and passing shipping traffic. A popular destination for history buffs, it offers insight into both the maritime history and rural life of Zeeland.
