More than a store, Shahm Market is a family project. Ammar runs the business with his wife, sons and daughter. The atmosphere is convivial, and the contact with customers sincere. "We don't just want to let people taste, we want to introduce people to our culture," he explains. This hospitality is widely appreciated: from local residents to tourists, everyone feels welcome.
Ammar is brimming with plans. For example, he also delivers his artisanal Falafel sandwiches to homes. "Not everyone can come to the store, but everyone should have the chance to taste Syrian," he says. He is also thinking of cooking workshops and tastings to share his knowledge and love of food even more widely.
Ammar cherishes his place on Scheldt Street. ''This street has potential. A community is being built here every day."
