During Vlissingen 1572, history comes to life in a special way at the muZEEum. On Saturday, April 11, 2026, visitors can participate in a program full of activities, for young and old, between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM, with free admission to the museum and all activities.
Step into the world of 1572
At the muZEEum, you can dress up as someone from the 16th century, complete with a dirty face or a rotten tooth! Have your picture taken in our photo booth and take your own 1572 portrait home as a souvenir.
Children's Workshop: Freedom Weapons
Outside on the Nieuwendijk, children can make their own freedom weapon during a creative workshop. Armed with their homemade weapon on a stick, they symbolically go to war, just like the people of Vlissingen did in 1572. Guidance by museum guides ensures that everything runs safely and educational, and participation is free.
Theatrical Performance: Girl in Resistance
In addition, the play "Girl in Revolt" is performed in the Warehouses at the muZEEum. The story follows a young girl who experiences the uprising up close. Although she is not allowed to participate in the uprising herself, while her brother is, the performance shows how ordinary people show courage and stand up for freedom. The performances are at 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, there is room for 25 visitors per performance, and reservations are not possible.
Exhibition: Vlissingen in Resistance
In a special pop-up exhibition, visitors can discover how the inhabitants of Vlissingen united in resistance against Spanish occupation. For instance, on the treasure attic of the muZEEum, the storm helmet of Spanish Captain Hernando Pacheco is on display. He was captured upon arrival in Vlissingen. This way, history is experienced in an interactive and impressive manner.
The muZEEum and all activities are accessible for free on this day, and the program offers a perfect mix of games, creativity, and theater for the whole family during Vlissingen 1572.
More information about the program and all activities can be found on the website of Vlissingen 1572.
